ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - The George-based R & B artist, Shariefa Draai, is preparing to release her debut single, "I Just Wanna be Free", featuring Max Gozo, on the Day One platform on 29 May.
Draai is an emerging artist with a soulful voice and a deep passion for music that carries meaning. Raised in a musical family, her father also being a music producer, she grew up surrounded by sound, melody and creative expression.
Her voice has the smooth emotional flavour of early 2000s R & B, blending warmth, vulnerability and strength in a way that feels both nostalgic and fresh.
She said this debut single is more than just a song. It is an anthem for anyone carrying battles they have not yet spoken about. The song speaks to mental health, inner conflict, healing and the desire to break free from the silent weight many people carry behind closed doors.
Draai said at its heart, the single gives language to those moments when people feel overwhelmed by pain, pressure, fear and confusion, but do not know how to express it.
"Through the song, I hope to encourage listeners to seek the light, whether that means speaking up, reaching out for support, finding healing, leaning on faith, or simply having the courage to be honest about what they are going through," says Draai.
The single also features Max Gozo, a local producer, songwriter and artist, who produced the emotional beat behind the song and adds a powerful verse that brings depth and intensity to the message.
This marks Draai and Gozo's first collaboration.
