ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - Several York High School learners impressed their audiences with an evening of strong performances at the annual York's Greatest Dancer Competition and Showcase on Thursday 21 May.
Grade 12 learner Jade Heyns was crowned York's Greatest Dancer 2026. She also won the best duet award with Carla Wilson. Kitra Soldin received the best amateur title, while Carla finished as the overall runner-up and Margot Michaelides placed third overall.
The event featured a variety of dance styles and showcased the talent, creativity and dedication of the school's dancers. Many of the routines were choreographed by the learners themselves, adding a personal touch to the production.
One of the highlights of the evening was a performance of "Deliver Us" from the musical, The Prince of Egypt, which drew an emotional response from the audience with its powerful storytelling and expressive choreography.
Dance coach Linda Johnson praised the learners for the effort they put into the production. "The standard of dancing and choreography this year was exceptional. The learners worked incredibly hard and showed great commitment throughout the process," she said.
Johnson is especially proud of the learners who created their own choreography. "It takes courage and confidence to put your own work on stage, and they did an outstanding job."
Another crowd favourite was an energetic pantsula performance, which had the audience clapping and cheering along.
